It's Okay

“She understands now what she, in all her worry, had forgotten.
That even as she hesitates and wavers,
even as she thinks too much
and moves too cautiously,
she doesn't always have to get it right.
It's okay to look back, even as you move forward.”

Remembering

“The brave die never, though they sleep in dust, their courage serves a thousand living men.” —Minot J. Savage

Memorial Day is not a day of celebration. It is a day of remembrance, reverence, and reflection about the heroic service of  too many unsung hero's who died, not in the arms of their loved ones but in a place for the most part far away from home. Each life was special and meaningful to someone at home. Today please take a moment from your moments with family to pause and say thank you to those who gave up their lives in the name of duty, honor, country, talk about the why's and wherefores' with your children so they might understand what this day really represents.

~This morning as I re-read this writing my first attempt at placing words from my heart on paper, I was given the opportunity to visually see how inwardly broken I was, while outwardly striving to find the new way to go forward.~

Today is my first attempt at putting to paper what my heart,my mind, and the depths of my inner soul feels. Four months ago on January 23, 2010 my world was forever changed, never to be the same again! I had been on the most fabulous adventure for 60 years and then my life came to a screeching halt, it was so fast, so quick, no warning, just done. Now I have to find my way alone. I have never ever been totally alone since the beginning of my existence, and now I am alone. Mind you, alone is not always bad, but it is new, challenging, and over whelming at times. I want to move forward but I keep looking back to make sure my journey forward is a legacy that shares the love of God, faith, value's with a purpose for being. A footprint in the sand of time here on earth that will leave a remembrance of me, who I was, who I am now and who I am yet to be. So I begin again.

On this day of remembrance in this wonderful land 'The United States of America',of which I have been privileged to call 'home' all 60 years of my life, I begin a Journey.

What more appropriate way to begin then to look back and to honor all of the unknown men and women who have come before me in giving up their very lives to establish this great country.

As I remember the ones in my immediate family who who have served or are serving, I give pause and reflect what they have personally meant to me and my family. They came home and made a life, many of their comrade in arms. did not.

Byron Trent Johnson: WWII Veteran US Navy,US Air Force retired (Our dear, sweet, kind-hearted, gentle spirited Dad)

Oliver Harold Lane: WWII Veteran Navy (Wonderful Father-in-law, kind, multi-talented, he left a wonderful legacy in his son)

Curtis Andrew Lane: Vietnam era Veteran US Air Force (My love, my heart, my best friend for 41 years, we shared two wonderful legacies, Chris and Amy, his God given talents that he shared with others, were so very meaningful to so many people)

Mark Thomas Germano: West Point Graduate 1997 US Army 'Operation Iraqi Freedom' 2007, 'Operation New Dawn'2010, retired (Special son-in-law, quiet, unassuming, loyal and steadfast)

There are many others of our family, friends and neighborhood acquaintances and to them I simply say thank you for your service.

These brave countrymen were and are hero's in their own way and I cherish their special ability and uniqueness of spirit that they exhibited during their years of service to our country.

I see the spirit of those that have past on to God's kingdom and those that are still serving, in the eyes of my grandsons as they choose to walk the path of the Young Marines. They are learning about the great gift of service and sacrifice at an early age and I am proud of what I see as they grow into young men.

If you are reading this online journal then I have invited you to peruse these lines of words. You may choose to follow periodically or not at all. I will be posting, thoughts, feelings, things that I see or find interesting along the way, but mostly it is a way for me to work through this great sense of loss that I am struggling to overcome. It is a personal journey full of ups, downs, a disarray of emotions and remembrances of a lifetime that are rushing by like the speed of light. If you care to reflect with me then I invite you to join in with your comments and thoughts. I would appreciate the input, as it will make the journey more interesting.

Well enough for the beginning of the journey...Salute...

Addendum: May 26, 2021 as of January 11, 2021

I wanted to add this to my previous writing, because life and circumstances are constantly changing. Our grandson Hunter Reed Lane, became a proud serving member of The United States Army in January of 2021. He is in the process of completing the Army Basic courses at Fort Benning, Georgia, with future goals soon to follow. I am so very proud of what this young man has accomplished thus far in his 24 years, with his Bachelors degree, his Master Degree under his belt  he chose to serve his country, which he felt was his calling. I know he will continue to strive to compete and complete each task set before him. Hoorah Hunter...you are always in my prayers and my heart as you move forward on your journey.

“There are powers far beyond us, plans far beyond what we could have ever thought of, visions far more vast than what we can ever see on our own with our own eyes, there are horizons long gone beyond our own horizons. This is courage- to throw away what is our own that is limited and to thrust ourselves into the hands of these higher powers- God and Destiny. To do this is to abide in the realm of the eternal, to walk in the path of the everlasting to follow in the footprints of God and demi-gods. The hardest part for man is the letting go. For some reason, he thinks himself big enough to know and to see what's good for him. But in the letting go...is found freedom. In the letting go... is found the flight!”

As my sweet husband 'Curt' always said "God Bless"

and I say to you
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
